'I deserved a chance' Mallik Wilks' parting message to Leeds United after forward seals Barnsley move

Mallik Wilks has sent a parting message to Leeds United after completing a permanent transfer to Barnsley, insisting that he deserved a chance to prove himself in the Whites' first-team.

The 20-year-old secured a move to South Yorkshire on Friday evening, as the Tykes saw off competition from Hull City to land the forward.

Wilks impressed during a loan spell at League One side Doncaster Rovers last season after stints at Accirington Stanley and Grimsby Town in the 2017-18 campaign and had hoped for an opportunity under Marcelo Bielsa in the upcoming campaign.

But he now departs Elland Road with just one senior Leeds United appearance to his name, a cameo off the bench against Sutton United in the FA Cup in January 2017

And he believes he had earned the chance to show Whites fans what he can do.

"[I] would like the thank everyone at Leeds United for the past six years at the club, all the staff with my progression and the players I got to play with. Sometimes things are just out of your control in football," he posted on Twitter.

"I felt I deserved a chance to prove myself after last season but that's football for you. On a positive note would like to wish all the fans and the club all the best in the future"

Wilks will join up with his former Leeds team-mate Aapo Halme at Oakwell, following the Finns' move to South Yorkshire earlier this week.
