A woman says she’ll never order a cake from Walmart again after picking up her daughter’s heart birthday cake. Viewers are split on whether her reaction to the cake was warranted.
In a video with over 480,000 views, TikToker Ana Win (@ana_win726) sits in her car after picking up the cake she ordered two weeks prior from Walmart.
She shows a picture of the reference photo for the cake, a pink heart with icing and pearl details. Wins says she paid $27.98 for the custom cake. Walmart offers several decorated cake options that can be customized with text or icing color in pre-orders, according to the retailer’s website.
However, she shares her disappointment when she sees the finished product.
Why was she disappointed in the Walmart heart cake?
She shows the finished cake in a box. The plain hot pink cake has lighter pink icing around the sides, like the reference image. However, the cake is missing the pearl details.
“That does not look like what I ordered,” she says.
She then shows a clip of the cake decorator trying to fix the cake behind the counter.
Win says that she had to wait over 30 minutes for the cake decorator, who was “rude” when she expressed disappointment in the lack of bling on the cake.
“In the end, she did end up apologizing, and she did let me know that she was rushing through her orders this morning,” Win says.
While she isn’t completely satisfied with the cake, the TikToker decides to take it as-is and knows her daughter will love it.
The caption reads, “Great example of ‘you get what you pay for.'” The Mary Sue previously reported that another Walmart customer was disappointed in the thick layers of icing on the heart cake she ordered.
How did viewers react to the finished cake?
In the comments, viewers share split opinions on whether the TikToker’s disappointment is valid.
“Ummmm u paid 20 bucks expecting it to be a boutique cake. thats wild,” one writes.
“It actually looks cute. I think people are too obsessed with perfection. Custom cakes from a baker are over $100. The writing is what matters and it was done nicely,” another says.
However, Win explains that the reference image she used was actually advertised on Walmart’s website. Some viewers agree that the cake seemed unfinished.
“Get cakes from Walmart ALLLLLL the time. All she was expecting was what was advertised yall, if the person decorating the cake doesn’t have the skills to remake the picture that THEY advertised then Walmart needs to hire someone else,” a commenter suggests.
“Guys. walmart ADVERTISED the heart cake. they iver promised underdelivered why yall hating on this mom!” another remarks.
“The final result looks good but yeah that initial pick up was not it. I don’t care if it was $5, if you have a pictured advertisement that’s what I’m expecting to get or at the very least, something close to it. Glad you spoke up,” a third writes.
