'I’d like to leave a legacy here': Fred's ultimate Manchester United ambition

Fred says he is hoping to leave behind 'a legacy' when he eventually looks back on his Manchester United career.

The Brazilian midfielder was surprised to hear that he made his 100th appearance for the club during the weekend draw with West Brom - and now he is targeting even more history during his time in Manchester.

Fred initially struggled following his move from Shakhtar in 2018, but enjoyed a successful second season at the club which saw him become a key player under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The 27-year-old has formed a formidable partnership with Scott McTominay in the United midfield this season and is now dreaming of his first piece of silverware with the club.

Speaking after the weekend draw Fred admitted he was surprised to reach a century of appearances so soon, but now his focus is on leaving a lasting impression on United fans.

“I’m really happy,” Fred told Inside United. “It represents a great landmark for me, it’s what everyone aims for.

“Ah man, I wasn’t even expecting this. It took me by surprise when you just told me now. I’m really pleased. It’s a great landmark, and as I said I hope I can play many more games for United.

“I’d like to leave a legacy here. It’s somewhere all players want to be, so I look to do my best, play in many more games and make history here.”
