'I cry every morning because I am so happy that I have finally realised my dream of becoming a nurse'... coronavirus tragedy of mum-of-three who was the 'loveliest person you could ever meet'

Tributes have been paid to a nurse and mum-of-three who has died in hospital after contracting coronavirus.

Friends have described Areema Nasreen, who worked at Walsall Manor Hospital, as the 'loveliest person you could ever meet'.

The 36-year-old had wanted to be a nurse since she was a teenager, caring for her nan after she suffered a stroke.

Areena's family have said they think she could have contracted Covid-19 'virtually anywhere'.

She was on annual leave when she first started showing symptoms.

She was put on a ventilator in intensive care - but although her condition is understood to have improved slightly last week, she took a turn for the worse and died in the early hours of Friday morning, Birmingham Live reports.

Fellow nurse Rubi Aktar said of her friend: "She was the most loveliest, genuine person you could ever meet, she went above and beyond for everyone she met.

"I’m so grateful that I had the honour to call her my best friend, she saw me at my best and my worst and accepted my every flaw.

“I am so broken that words can’t explain.

"I can’t believe I will not see your smile again.”

A relative told Black Country Live: "The immediate family are devastated. Everyone is in shock this morning.

"She was always so full of life. She was devoted to her job as a nurse, she absolutely loved it. She passed away doing what she loved.

"I'm really sad for the rest of the family, she was a fantastic person."

Areema, who worked as a staff nurse at Walsall Manor Hospital’s Acute Medical Unit, had previously explained that her motivation for becoming a nurse came from her experience looking after her nan.

She explained: “I just wanted to be able to look after people, particularly those who are elderly and vulnerable.

"I cry every morning because I am so happy that I have finally realised my dream of becoming a nurse."

Speaking early last week, Ms Nasreen’s sister Kazeema, who works as a healthcare assistant at the same hospital, told Sky News the family thinks she could have contracted Covid-19 “virtually anywhere”.

The 22-year-old said her normally fit and health sister, from Walsall, was on annual leave when she first started showing symptoms.

She described her sister as "an amazing nurse on the front line.. who always helps so many."

She added: “I want everyone to know how dangerous this is. My sister is only 36 and is normally fit and healthy.

“People are not taking this seriously enough. She is young – it is not just the elderly who are at risk.”
