Mehdi Abeid has been reflecting on a key moment that had a big impact on his Newcastle United career.
The midfielder joined Newcastle in 2011 from Lens in his native France.
He made 21 appearances for the club before leaving St James' Park in 2015 to join Greek side Panathinaikos.
Sixteen of his first-team outings came during the 2014-15 campaign but an unfortunate injury hampered his progress.
Abeid has since gone on to have spells with Dijon and current club Nantes - but he clearly still wonders what might have been at Newcastle.
“I’m headed back to Newcastle, and at Burnley, I’m playing with a broken toe with an injection,” he told 20 Minutes.
“At the end of the match, I couldn’t walk. I was away for several months. That put a damper on my experience in Newcastle.
“I could have played all season there, I was confident. I loved my life there.”
In an interview with ChronicleLive in January, Abeid - now 28 - said he would love to return to Newcastle at some point in his career.
"I think it was my biggest regret to quit Newcastle United," he added.
"If I could change the past I would take the decision to stay and prove myself to the club and the fans.
"But I was really young and I needed that game time to progress."
