I compared BLT sandwiches from Tesco, Aldi and Sainsbury's and I'd only buy one again

Bacon, lettuce and tomato is a firm favourite when it comes to sandwich fillings, but I’ve found some shops are yet to master it.

I decided to put Tesco, Aldi and Sainsbury’s to the test to find out which supermarket had the tastiest BLT.

I went into it assuming the sandwiches would taste very similar and it would be hard to separate them when it came to taste, amount of filling and texture.

However, I was wrong. I guess this was a good thing as it made it easier to rate the BLTs. I only really enjoyed one of the sandwiches.

I love bacon, lettuce, tomato and bread, so what could go wrong? I believe the bread needs to be extra soft to combat the chewiness of the bacon, the crunchiness of the lettuce and the juiciness of the tomato.

Unfortunately, I'd only buy one of the BLTs again. Here's my verdict.

Tesco

I had to buy Tesco's The Triple which contained a BLT. (Liverpool Echo/Phoebe Barton)

Out of the three BLTs, Tesco's disappointed me the most. It first began when I visited my local Tesco at lunchtime and there were no BLTs left on the shelf.

This was a good sign, as it suggested that the sandwich must be yummy considering they'd already been snapped up by hungry customers.

Not giving up on my search, I found a pack of three sandwiches with different fillings, and one was a BLT - result! However, after trying the bacon, lettuce and tomato in The Triple Sandwich selection, it didn't quite hit the spot.

Although the bread itself was soft, it wasn't very flavoursome and the bacon was very dry. Tesco's BLT had the least amount of mayo, which didn't help. There was also only two slices of tomato, which was significantly less than the other two sandwiches as well.

Aldi

Aldi's Eat & Go Bacon, Lettuce & Tomato Sandwich certainly impressed me. It had an equal amount of bacon, lettuce and tomato, and had an evenly spread layer of mayonnaise.

The bread was super soft, thick and full of flavour, making it the tastiest bread out of the three sandwiches I tried. The tomato was also the most flavoursome, as it was fresh, juicy and there was plenty of it.

The bacon was the best in Aldi's BLT, as it was thin with a slight crisp and wasn't fatty. With each bite I could taste every component, which wasn't the case with the other two sandwiches which were fairly uneven with the product distribution.

Sainsbury’s

Sainsbury's BLT sandwich. (Liverpool Echo/Phoebe Barton)

When I opened the BLT from Sainsbury's, I noticed a hole in one of the pieces of bread - not a great start!

This sandwich had the most bacon out of the three, however it was a little too much, as it was all I could taste due to it overpowering the lettuce and tomato.

Like the Tesco BLT, there wasn't much tomato in the Sainsbury's sandwich, and I found myself looking inside to check there was actually some in there.

However, there was a good amount of mayo that was evenly spread and tasty, and the lettuce was fresh and crispy, but unfortunately the crusts on the bread were very hard, so I ended up leaving them.
