A woman says her choice of beer prompted an unexpected reaction from her date, sparking discussion on fragile masculinity.
In a video with over 2.4 million views, TikToker Millie Stennett (@millicentstennett) tells viewers she just got back from a first date.
“I can tell you right now there is not going to be a second,” she insists. Stennett explains that her date invited her to a beer garden, and she met him there.
When he asks her what she wants to drink, she says she’d like a Guinness. A Guinness is an Irish stout beer known for its roasted barley flavor and creamy head.
“He’s like, ‘You’re going to drink a Guinness?’” she says, continuing that she told him it was her “go-to” drink.
“He said, ‘I’m not buying you a pint of Guinness,’” she recalls.
Why wouldn’t her date buy her a pint of Guinness?
Stennett says she was confused and offered to pay for the drink herself. However, her date doubles down.
“I cannot believe I’ve invited a bird to the pub and she’s ordered a pint of Guinness,” he says. “That is so masculine of you.”
Stennett his reaction shocked her.
“God forbid a girl like a pint,” she laments. “I didn’t realize it was that much of a problem.”
Then, despite her date’s protest, she says she ordered the Guinness anyway.
“Then I left. And I’m probably going to block him,” she says. “He sat there with his double rum and Coke. [Expletive] off, get a Guinness!”
What did viewers think of her date’s opinion on Guinness?
In the comments, other women suggest her date felt emasculated by her choice of beverage.
“How fragile was his masculinity?” one writes.
Additionally, one wrote, “‘Masculine’ but his idea of a date is a pub.”
“I’ve drank more than one Guinness in my life. The container does not say for boys only,” yet a third jokes.
Others say she made the right choice by blocking her date, saying her Guinness order shouldn’t have been a red flag for him.
“When my husband and I met 18 years ago we went for a ‘coffee’ and ended up both drinking Guinness on the first date. we have one on the anniversary of our first date every year. blocking this guy is definitely the way forward,” a commenter shares.
“His masculinity felt threatened by you ordering a specific beer. Oh lord, imagine if he had seen you nailing a painting to a wall. He’d vaporize,” another writes.
“Naaaah the reason we had a second date is cos I ordered a pint. Said I was his kinda gal!, & 10yrs later we’re married with 2 kids!!” a third adds.
