‘I can’t even believe the woman handed this cake over’: New York woman orders $65 cake for bridesmaid brunch. Then she opens the box—and crashes out

When having a wedding, there’s a margin of error that’s to be expected–no matter how much you try, not every single thing may go according to plan. Perhaps a person who RSVP’d “no” suddenly arrives, or the cake turns up later than expected. It’s unlikely to expect things to go sideways from the beginning, however. Much less way before the actual wedding day. This is what happened to one bride who ordered a cake for her bridesmaid brunch, only to be sorely disappointed at the result.

In a viral TikTok, Alexa (@annoyingalexa) shares the debacle her best friend, Kayla, experienced at her bridesmaid brunch. According to Alexa, Kayla ordered a cake from a woman on Instagram who makes “gorgeous cakes.”

It didn’t turn out like the inspo pic, however.

“She’s lucky I’m not gonna name drop her yet,” Alexa says. “Because she’s not even offering to give any kind of compensation for how horrific this cake was.”

Alexa continues that she can’t even believe the woman handed the cake over as is, and then warns viewers about the image they’re about to see.

A cake gone terribly wrong

First, Alexa shares the inspiration picture Kayla sent the baker. It was a medium-sized, heart-shaped cake in classic, elegant frosting. The lettering–in script–wrote, “They said yes.” Pearls dotted the cake, and a few baby’s breath sprung out from the bottom. Simple, elegant and also cute.

What Kayla got was none of the above.

Alexa says the point of the cake was for the bridesmaids to take cute pictures with it and for it to be included in the vlogs about the brunch.

“This was a big event,” she says. According to Alexa, the baker confirmed that she will be able to do the cake.

So when Kayla opened the box and looked inside, she didn’t expect the cake to resemble as if a “5-year-old” made it.

In the clip, Alexa reveals the cake: it is vaguely heart-shaped, with the frosting looking crooked and messy. A singular pearl is affixed to the side, but perhaps the most egregious of it all was the lettering.

“They said yay,” it read in a font that was not script, but just normal handwriting. As one commenter put it, “It looks like a ransom note.”

Alexa claims the woman defended herself after Kayla complained about it.

“I worked really hard on this cake, all the supplies, everything that I did, the time,” the woman allegedly told Kayla via DM. “I’m sorry, there will be no refund.”

The woman then allegedly said that the writing “melted” on the way to the party. Alexa is skeptical, but even if it had melted, she says it wasn’t even in script.

“The more I look at this, the more angry I get,” Alexa says.

Did they get a refund?

In a follow-up post, Alexa says they did some investigating and concluded that the baker was more than likely a teenager.

“She could be anywhere from the ages of 18 to 20,” Alexa says after doing some sleuthing.

“I don’t know if I should blast her on her because she’s a child, which is probably why the cake was so horrible,” Alexa says. They didn’t know that beforehand, especially since the cakes on the girl’s Instagram “actually looked good.”

After some back and forth, the baker offered Kayla a $20 refund, despite her having spent $65 on the cake. The aesthetics weren’t the only fail; Alexa says it tasted like “dogsh–” too.

Viewers want justice

After Alexa’s video went viral with over 300,000 views, viewers wanted to see the baker go down. So much so that Alexa had to make a follow-up video explaining why she would not name drop the girl.

“You guys are nuts,” she says, calling her viewers out for wanting to “witch hunt” an 18 year old. Still, folks said the baker needed to be stopped as she was running a “scam business.”

Others recommended places where Kayla could have gotten a way better cake for a fraction of the price.

“My $25 Walmart cake lol and it wasn’t even custom,” one said. “Just a V-Day cake that I just put my own toppers on. Still looked better than that.”

Another added, “Honestly she could have went to Publix or Walmart & did it herself. That’s what i did for my birthday shoot.”
