A serial criminal meant to look after two young girls while their mother was in hospital committed seven indecent acts in front of them in the space of four months.
The ACT Magistrates Court on Wednesday heard from the mother of the victims, who told the criminal she would never forgive him and "I don't know how to comprehend what you've done."
"You took advantage of my daughters' vulnerability ... you were supposed to protect them," the woman said.
"You waited until I was in hospital when you did this to my children."
The woman said one of her daughters was disabled.
Prosecutor Hannah Roberts said that on one occasion the man took one of the young girls to the Old Canberra Brickworks in Yarralumla, where he led her into the female bathroom and exposed himself.
The Canberra Times has chosen not to name the man to protect the identity of the victims.
The prosecutor said the man told the girl not to tell anyone about the incident, which showed he appreciated what he was doing was wrong.
That was despite claims by the man's lawyer, Dean Rutherford, who said the man's moral culpability for the incidents was reduced by his brain injury, foetal alcohol spectrum disorder.
He said the man had long struggled with drug and alcohol abuse, but a pending National Disability Insurance Scheme application would provide him with the support he needed outside jail if it was successful.
The seven incidents happened between December 2019 and March this year.
Mr Rutherford conceded, though, that only a sentence of full-time imprisonment would suffice for the man's crimes; he said it was just a matter of how long he should spend in prison.
A psychologist and friend of the man's family said he had spent most of the past 10 to 15 years behind bars.
Magistrate Glenn Theakston said he would sentence the man for two counts of committing acts of indecency in the presence of minors on December 16.
