'I can't believe that' - Former Sunderland striker's verdict on Ozturk's red card

Former Sunderland striker Don Goodman couldn't believe referee Andy Woolmer sent off Alim Ozturk against Portsmouth.

The Black Cats defender was given a straight red card for a challenge on Pompey's Gareth Evans with the home side 1-0 up thanks to Chris Maguire's goal.

Goodman, on co-commentary duty for Sky Sports, was adamant it shouldn't have been a red card.

Speaking during the game, he said: “Well I can’t believe that. I have just been praising Andy Woolmer.

"My goodness me, For me, this is 100 percent not a clear and obvious goal scoring opportunity.

"The ball is going well away from the goal. He’s not happy with Evans, and maybe he shouldn’t have been diving in like that. But it should not be a red card, as far as I’m concerned.

“Is this the moment that will allow Portsmouth back into the game."

Portsmouth hit the post from the resulting free-kick, with Jimmy Dunne brought on for Lynden Gooch.
