'I called this' - Arsenal told they can expose FSG transfer decision against Liverpool

Former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor has criticised Liverpool's decision not to strengthen in the summer transfer window and believes Jurgen Klopp's side will miss out on the Premier League title as a result.

A number of supporters were left concerned after a Gini Wijnaldum replacement was not purchased, though youngsters Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott were viewed as two individuals capable of filling the void.

Injuries in the midfield department are now beginning to stack up for Klopp, who will be without the aforementioned duo and Naby Keita this weekend.

Heading into Saturday's Premier League showdown with Arsenal, Agbonlahor believes Mikel Arteta's side should now be considered 'favourites' to claim three points due to Liverpool's worsening injury situation.

“I called this at the start of the season,” the ex-Villa striker told Football Insider.

“I said Liverpool would not win the Premier League this season because of the lack of squad depth, and that’s what will happen.

“If you are looking at this Liverpool team at the weekend with those injuries, Arsenal should now be favourites and looking to take advantage.

“There are a lot of key players who might be out. Liverpool, for me, did not add enough depth to their squad over the summer," added Agbonlahor.

“It will be a tough game for Liverpool. Arsenal have got a chance to beat them. This is a test for them. Let’s see where they are against Liverpool on the back of those injuries.”

Divock Origi, Jordan Henderson and Sadio Mane have all suffered injury scares during the current international break, though encouraging updates have since been provided on the fitness of the Reds' trio.

For Arsenal, meanwhile, there were fears that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was a doubt for Saturday's trip to Anfield after he played no part in Gabon's World Cup qualifier with Egypt last night.

It has since been confirmed that this was a pre-planned and that the 32-year-old is fit to face Liverpool.
