'I bought two cars from Trade Centre Wales and both broke down in a fortnight'

A Valleys dad said he had two cars from the same showroom break down on him in the space of a fortnight - one whilst he was driving his young son down a busy stretch of motorway.

Business development manager Robert Andrews was travelling along the M49 towards the Prince of Wales Bridge on July 14 with 11-year-old Charlie beside him, when his 66 plate Nissan Qashqai lost all power, leaving him unable even to steer.

"How we didn't have an accident I'll never know, my boy was terrified," said the 34-year-old from Pen-Y-Bryn in the Rhondda .

"We then had to wait hours for the RAC to show up and tow the car to a Nissan garage in Bristol. They told me a problem with the alternator was leading to a drain on the battery, which also wasn't the one originally meant to be in there."

Robert said it was the second vehicle he had bought from the Abercynon branch of used car dealership Trade Centre Wales in two weeks.  The first  - a £14k Z4 BMW - also became undriveable after a few days following problems with both the clutch and the turbo.

"I took it back and they told me it wasn't their responsibility and I couldn't have my £500 deposit back," he said.

"They added that my only option was to pick another vehicle and carry the monthly finance agreement over onto that - hence the Nissan."

However, following his troubles with the second car, Robert said he no longer wants anything to do with the firm. He wants to give the car back and cancel his finance agreement.

He added: "They're still refusing to take the car back and refund my money, instead insisting an independent engineer looks at the problem first.

"In the meantime, I've not even been provided with a courtesy car, because, apparently, there aren't any available.

"All I want is what's owed to me and for them to admit they're at fault. That's not too much to ask, is it?"

A spokesman for Trade Centre Wales said: "We are unable to comment until an inspection has been completed on the vehicle so we have all the facts and can come to a final decision in this case."
