I bought my Chiltern Railways tickets online but when I collected them the machine said ‘no’

I purchased, via Virgin Rail’s website, three Chiltern Railways tickets from Leamington Spa to Edinburgh, using my American Mastercard. When I attempted to collect them from the machine, my Mastercard was deemed invalid. Chiltern says it stipulates on its website that American credit cards are not accepted – Virgin however insists that payment was taken and verified. DB, Edinburgh

Chiltern says that although it will not accept American Mastercard for purchases, customers can use it to collect access pre-paid tickets from the machine. In your case, it says a “technical issue” prevented your card being recognised and it has apologised. Happily, you are not left out of pocket since a station staff member used his own card to retrieve your tickets.
