A barmaid said she got an extreme reaction to an 80p face mask she bought from Primark
Chloe Wallace purchased the Hydrating Hyaluronic Acid Sheet Mask, which promises to boost skin hydration, from the store's Cardiff branch on Wednesday April 14.
But when she applied it the following evening she broke out in painful blisters under her eyes and around her mouth.
"It felt soothing at first but, after taking it off again about 15 minutes later, my skin started feeling really sore, " said the 21-year-old from Barry.
"Not long afterwards I got this burning sensation in my face and it started going really puffy and blotchy."
Chloe added that she doesn't suffer from sensitive skin and has never had an adverse reaction to similar products before.
"I don't have any allergies either, so I was really shocked. I tried everything to get the swelling down, like putting cold tea bags on my eyes.
"But nothing worked. I had really dry and flaky skin for days afterwards."
She said that she messaged Primark to point out a possible problem with the product and was offered £10 gift voucher.
"What I want is for them to take the item off the shelves as there's clearly something wrong with it.
"My mum also bought one and I told her to throw it straight in the bin.
"It's just not worth the risk."
A Primark spokesperson said, "Primark works really hard to ensure all our products are compliant with the relevant safety standards and we were very sorry to hear about this customer’s experience.
"In line with these standards, this particular mask includes a full list of ingredients and usage guidelines on the packaging.
"We are in contact with the customer and are investigating."
