'I banned my mother-in-law from our home after she installed hidden cameras'

Relationships with in-laws can be tricky, because you and they both think you know what's best for your partner - and you won't always agree.

But, while it's normal for these relationships to go through disagreements, one woman has been forced to ban her own mother-in-law from her home, after discovering she'd been spying on her.

The saga all began around a month ago, when her husband was in a car accident, which has caused him to bed ridden with a severe back injury every since.

During that time, she has taken on the role of care giver for her hubby and has even taken time away from work to look after him - but her mother-in-law has made it increasingly difficult.

"The pressure has been too much from my mother-in-law. She keeps telling me to take care of him and be there for him constantly. She begged me to take time of work and I did, asked me to send her hourly updates about his condition in the first two weeks, but when I don't she'd get mad and cause an issue," the frustrated woman wrote on Reddit's AITA forum.

"She visits everyday but doesn't do anything to help, alternatively, she'd list all the things I should or shouldn't do. The family keeps telling me she's just worried sick for her son so I try to stay calm."

However, things came to a head a few days ago, when her mother-in-law phoned her to say she hadn't been replacing the bed sheets often enough but the woman had no idea how she would know, since neither she or her husband had spoken to her.

"My sister-in-law called me to tell me that her mum installed a camera in the bedroom to see if I was taking proper care of her son. I was stunned, but after searching the room I found the camera," she continued.

"I called my mother-in-law and had a huge fight with her. She admitted it and said she was just feeling concerned and wanted to make sure her son was being cared for, despite him calling her everyday. I yelled at her telling her that she's no longer allowed into my home after this. She lost it and went on a rant about how I'm stopping her from seeing her son and that not seeing him will literally make her sick herself."

Her in-laws got in touch to beg her to go back on her decision but the woman told them firmly that her mother-in-law breached her privacy and took advantage of the situation by installing the camera.

"They said I'm taking it too personally and that I can't blame a concerned mother for wanting to make sure her son's fine, especially since she listed things she thought I was doing wrong," she added.

"I ended the conversation but my husband is upset telling me I'm being vindictive and that if his mum can't come then he'll move there with her. We argued then I went outside and he's been silent ever since."

The woman then turned to Reddit to question whether she was wrong in banning her mother-in-law from the home pretty much everyone was on her side.

"Report it to the police. Let your husband go home to his mummy," one Reddit user commented, while another added: "I'd flip my s*** if someone installed a camera in my room, I don't care who it is."

A third wrote: "Your husband just asked for a divorce. Let him stay married to his mother. There are better fish in the sea."
