I Asked ChatGPT If I Should Put My Money Into Political Predictions on Kalshi: Here’s What It Said

Kalshi is a federally regulated online exchange where people can wager on current events, such as political elections and events. As reported by The New Yorker, gambling has been creeping into political coverage for a while, and prediction markets like Kalshi “have the allure of a crystal ball.”

But before you put your hard-earned money into play on Kalshi, here’s what ChatGPT said to keep in mind.

The Bottom Line

Let’s start with the bottom line from ChatGPT, which said Kalshi should not be used for investing or as a primary financial strategy.

To summarize, ChatGPT said it depends on your goals and risk tolerance and that you should think of political prediction markets like Kalshi as speculation and not investing.

The Good and the Bad

On the positive side, ChatGPT suggested Kalshi can be intellectually engaging and have upsides if you enjoy probabilistic thinking, follow politics closely and are comfortable treating it like a paid prediction game. According to ChatGPT, some potential upsides include defined risk, event-driven clarity and short-time horizons.

On the negative side, it may be no surprise that ChatGPT said Kalshi may be the wrong tool for your money if your goal is retirement savings, steady growth or capital preservation. Among the biggest downsides noted by ChatGPT are the high uncertainty and the fact that there’s not compounding to build long-term wealth like you have with diversified investing.

When answering whether someone should put their money into political predictions on Kalshi, ChatGPT suggested doing so only if:

  • The money is full disposable (like entertainment or hobby money)
  • Losing 100% would not affect your finances or emotions
  • You’re explicitly not relying on it for income or growth.

Overall, while the chatbot said this practice can be engaging, it’s best not relied on as an investment tool.
