Over the past few summers, I've made it my mission to redesign different areas of my backyard to create the perfect, relaxing outdoor space. And my patio, located just outside my kitchen window, is this year's priority.
One of the non-negotiable pieces of outdoor furniture I want for the space is a scalloped parasol – something I've been seeing everywhere at the moment. I want to create a resort-like vibe with loungers and bar stools and little concrete side tables dotted everywhere for drinks and snacks. But all the parasols currently on my wish-list don't come cheap.
However, Aldi has come to the rescue – its Belavi range has once again come through, with a surprisingly chic, under-$40 Scalloped Market Umbrella that's going to instantly elevate my patio from drab and uninspiring to an elegant space everyone wants to spend time in. And it's probably the missing piece to your patio, too.
This blue and white striped parasol design feels very Nancy Meyers-esque, perfect for creating a more classic feel in your backyard.
If you prefer a more sophisticated, moody hue, this dark blue parasol is an elegant choice, especially with the addition of the white trim.
Here's one for the neutral lovers. It's described as gold, but this colorway definitely looks more like a classic beige tone than a metallic.
It's practically unheard of to find a stylish parasol that doesn't set you back hundreds of dollars, but this 9-foot design, which nails the scallop decor trend outdoors, comes in at just under $40 – and everyone is flocking to stores and online to snap up the deal.
And it's the perfect addition to a patio, poolside retreat, or even a large balcony to create a shady spot in style.
There are three different designs on offer, all with the on-trend scallop edge detail. The first option, which I have chosen for my space thanks to its classic pattern and colorway, is the blue and white horizontal stripe. To me, it's the epitome of summer and a design I will want to keep bringing out year after year.
The second is a timeless dark blue block color, with a thin white trim framing the scallop edge. It's a design that feels sophisticated with a nod to the classic Hamptons-style that's so on trend this summer. The third design is for the neutral lovers with a white and gold stripe.
So, if you're searching for a stylish parasol without spending a fortune, this is your sign to head to Aldi. Be quick – they are currently still in stock, but I have no doubt that this parasol, in all its designs, will sell out fast.
More parasols on my wish-list
If this Aldi Find has already sold out, or there's not an Aldi store near you to pop down to, these are the other affordable retro-style parasols I had on my wishlist for a similar resort vibe.
This scalloped parasol from Wayfair is more expensive than the ALDI ones, but it's still less than $200. It's got a similar feel, with the block white canopy featuring a thin black trim around the scallop edge. This option is tiltable and fade-resistant.
Before I found the ALDI parasols, this design, from the Threshold™ designed with Studio McGee at Target, was my front runner. I love the traditional stripe design and natural colorway. This is the larger design, measuring 9 foot wide, but there is a small 6.5 foot design for just $90.
Want to add a pop of tasteful color to your patio? This coral pink design, which offers the perfect amount of color without overwhelming, features a double scalloped edge for a layered look. It's tiltable and can be used come rain or shine – the perfect versatile piece to elevate your backyard.
I'm loving the revival of this retro patio umbrella design, especially with ALDI's incredibly affordable options. To keep your parasol looking as good as new, make sure you keep up with maintenance – there are a few recommended ways to clean a patio umbrella that will not only make it look more stylish, but help it last longer, too.
