'I am here live, I'm not a cat' - lawyer's cat Zoom filter in front of judge in court goes viral

A lawyer had a nightmare when he appeared before a judge in a virtual court case and popped up on screen as a wide-eyed cartoon kitten instead of his face.

The 69-year-old was forced to face the plight many fear during the pandemic in the age of non-stop Zoom calls - an accidental filter that you can't remove from your screen.

Not surprisingly, the clip has gone viral and has been viewed more than 2 million times since it was uploaded.

It is believed his child had used the computer before him and left a cat filter running on the camera as he tried to defend the state of Texas in the US in the 394th Judicial District Court.

Hapless Rod Ponton began his virtual court hearing before Judge Roy Ferguson with no idea his on-screen persona was a wide-eyed white fluffy kitten.

Judge Ferguson said: "Mr Ponton I believe you have a filter turned on in the video settings. You might want to.."

Mr Ponton replies: "Ah. We're trying to... Can you hear me judge?"

The Judge replies: "I can hear you. I think it's a filter."

The cat replies: "It is. I don't know how to remove it. I've got my assistant here. She's trying to. We're prepared to go forward with it. I am here live. I'm not a cat."

The judge replies: "I can see that. I think if you click the up arrow next to the..."

Judge Roy Ferguson later tweeted: "IMPORTANT ZOOM TIP: If a child used your computer, before you join a virtual hearing check the Zoom Video Options to be sure filters are off. This kitten just made a formal announcement on a case in the 394th (sound on)."
