As the resident Sleep Editor here at Homes & Gardens, I'm so lucky to get to test the very best in expensive, luxurious bedding. But there's one affordable comforter set that got me through my time at college, and I still reach for it every spring, even now.
The IKEA BERGPALM Comforter Set is made from soft 100% cotton, which is naturally lightweight, moisture-wicking, and breathable, with a chic, vintage-look striped design.
As soon as the weather warms up, it's the first set I put on my bed – and it's affordable, too. Here's why it's one of the best comforters and, year after year, for the spring and summer months.
I Always Swap to This Whimsical IKEA Bedding Come Spring
I bought this bedding in 2021 and have used and loved it ever since. Mine is in the sage green colorway, but it's also available in blue and gray, and offers a stylish, comfortable, lived-in feel that's airy and breathable for spring weather.
If, like me, you live in a home without air-conditioning, you'll know how tricky it can be to keep your home cool. While this is uncomfortable during the day, I usually find respite and enjoyment out in my yard, but it's when nighttime approaches that I find myself seriously struggling to keep my bed cool in summer.
If this rings true to you, you're probably looking to shop for the best cooling sheets ahead of the warmer weather. And, while they're not 'cooling,' per se, my favorite spring linens for the last five years hail from IKEA – the BERGPALM Comforter Set – and cost just $69.99 in a Full/Queen size.
The thing about all-natural, cotton bedding is that it doesn't have to rely on any significant cooling claims. Cotton is naturally cooling and breathable, making it ideal for hot, dry weather and for hot sleepers.
Usually, I'd suggest thin cotton bedding for spring, but this set is a little thicker than you might expect. That being said, I've never found myself overheating with it – you may just need to adjust your best duvet insert to something a little more lightweight.
For a seriously comfortable night's sleep, I always make use of the cross-draft trick, opening windows on opposite sides of the room or home to allow air to circulate, and pair my BERGPALM Comforter Set with my fan.
Mine's just an affordable floor fan I inherited from my parents, but if you want to invest in the best fan money can buy, our Home Tech Editor, Dan Fauzi, recommends the Shark FlexBreeze Fan or the LEVOIT Tower Fan, both available at Amazon, if you're working with a smaller budget.
One thing to note – I was genuinely surprised to spot a few negative reviews of the BERGPALM Comforter Set on the IKEA site, mainly relating to issues with washing. I've never once encountered an issue, and my set still looks and feels as good as the day I bought it back in 2021, if not now, even softer.
So long as you know how to wash, dry, and care for your bed linen correctly, you can take it from me – you won't encounter any issues. Mine's still going strong, and I'm already enjoying it on my bed as spring hots up.

There's something about sage green in spring that is so soothing and lovely. I adore the chic look and feel of this bedding, and it keeps me cool and comfortable all spring and summer long.

As you can tell, I really love fun green bedding. This gingham set from Quince is made of 100% long-staple organic cotton, ideal if you prefer to shop for the best organic bedding, and is crisp and cool to the touch.

This Bedsure set made it to our best Amazon cooling sheets guide, and is made from rayon derived from bamboo, which, though semi-synthetic, is highly breathable, moisture-wicking, and ideal for hot weather.

This IKEA cooling duvet is thermoregulating and features silky lyocell fabric that actively absorbs and transports moisture away so you stay comfy and dry while you sleep. Head of Solved, Punteha van Terheyden, swears by it after a month of testing.

If the weather's really hot, I often just sleep under a flat sheet. This percale pick from Brooklinen is cool, crisp, and breathable, and is matte with a casual, lived-in look that ensures your bedroom space never looks overdone.

Your pillow could be causing you to overheat. These are filled with gel fiber to offer support for all types of sleepers and sleep positions, and feature a soft blend of cooling gel-infused fibers that prevent heat from being trapped.
If you still find yourself overheating at night, I'd suggest investing in one of the best cooling mattress toppers and pads to use alongside your bedding.
