'I always say a little prayer to them' - Connell Rawlinson dedicates first Notts County goal to memory of his grandparents

Connell Rawlinson said his emotional celebration at scoring his first goal for Notts County was inspired by the memory of two grandparents.

The defender conjured up the winner in the Magpies’ 2-1 win over 10-man Bromley when he headed in Michael Doyle’s cross in the second half.

Notts had earlier taken the lead through a fabulous Wes Thomas goal, before Michael Cheek levelled with a fine 20-yard drive.

But up popped Rawlinson to seal all three points to take Notts’ unbeaten run to eight games in all competitions and dedicated it to Gwen Dorrian and Doreen Rawlinson.

“It was quite emotional,” he said.

“I’ve got two nans who passed away so I dedicated it to them.

“I always say a little prayer to them before the game to say ‘keep me safe and give us an opportunity to win the game’.

“They have passed away, one four years ago and another about five, but they saw me grow up as a nipper playing football.

“They used to text me and say good luck so  it was  a proud moment to dedicate  my goal to them two and also score in front of our fans as well.”
