‘I already had an inkling’: South Carolina server gives 30 boneless Buffalo Wild Wings to table. Then she checks the tip they left her

“Stiffing” refers to people who refuse to tip workers, such as servers, or tip very little. In American tipping culture, this is one of the cardinal sins, but one Buffalo Wild Wings server has reached her limit.

Layla (@layla52901) discussed what happened on a Sunday shift in a TikTok with 6,113 views, which included on-screen text reading: “Serving rant.”

What happened at this Buffalo Wild Wings?

She began by explaining how two women came in. The kitchen messed up their meal, which they were allowed to keep, and they also asked for to-go boxes.

“I already had an inkling that I wasn’t gonna get any money from this table,” she admitted. To try and combat this, she went to her manager to share her concerns and asked them to discount the meals because of the mistake. As a result, the patrons get $13 worth of wings free.

“I go back to the table. Zero [expletive] dollars. Zero [expletive] dollars. I saved you 13 [expletive] dollars. Not only that, you got 30 [expletive] boneless wings for free,” she ranted. “For free, you didn’t even pay for them because they were messed up. And not only that, you got your meal free because I got you a $13 [discount], which wasn’t even as much as your [expletive] meal.”

She also noted that the manager discounted their margaritas, saving them more money, and to add more insult to injury, noted how they kept calling her an “amazing” server but not giving her any money.

Layla then moved on to the next table. This one included a group of three men, all paying separately, watching sports on the TV. She tells them to stay as long as they like. Each man had their own $40 bill, but the most shocking part was that they, too, didn’t tip.

“Each [expletive] one of them stiffed me, every single one of them. I’m sorry, don’t come to a [expletive] restaurant if you can’t tip, period, because I’ve been over backwards for these tables. And […] even $5 like, I mean, nothing, and it was nothing from all three of them. So you know damn well, they walked into the restraunt knowing they were not gonna tip jack [expletive].”

What did commenters think?

Most commenters were firmly on Layla’s side. “All I’m gonna say [is] if you can’t afford to tip don’t go out to eat,” one wrote. “Mandatory 20% ‘service charge’ on everybody,” another demanded.

“People always complain abt having to tip, but if it weren’t for us you wouldn’t be in this restaurant eating?” a third highlighted.

Multiple servers also got involved.

A fourth revealed, “I stopped doing people ‘favors’ when I realized it wouldn’t give me any more brownie points.”

While a fifth admitted, “That’s why I stopped going to my manager about stuff like this. You can tell if you’ll get stiffed, it won’t change their mind so at least make em pay full price!”

Buffalo Wild Wings didn’t immediately respond to The Mary Sue’s request for comment via email.

Should servers get revenge on non-tippers?

Some servers have resorted to petty revenge when they miss out on tips. In a viral video, Brian Goode (@ihavementalillness69) shared how, after going the extra mile for a customer, they left no tip along with their $96 bill. But what they did leave behind was an expensive beanie.

After smearing the beanie with ranch, he returned it to the customer’s girlfriend. “They never said anything. They never came back, but his beanie was full of ranch, and I’m happy,” he said.
