'I adopted a dog with the same name as my mother-in-law because I love drama'

When it comes to adopting a rescue dog, it will likely already respond to its name.

While some owners choose to rename their pets after welcoming them into their home, others keep their pre-registered names as it doesn't always feel right to change them.

But one woman has taken this one step further by deliberately adopting a dog with the same name as her mother-in-law because she loves creating 'drama'.

Speaking to a work friend, who has shared her story on Reddit, the woman explained how she wasn't going to turn the dog down just because of her name.

She told her friend: "I've really done it this time. I've ended up with a sweet four-year-old crossbreed called Tracey.

"My mother-in-law is also called Tracey. I don't think she is going to like it.

"My Tracey is beyond adorable so I'm sure she will learn to love her too but I'm here for the drama if she doesn't."

After waiting the weekend to hear how her mother-in-law reacted to the new dog, the colleague asked for updates as soon as she arrived at work.

The work mate said: "When she came into work on Monday morning, I obviously had to ask her how her mother-in-law reacted to Tracey the dog.

"She said she was really angry and her husband wasn't all that pleased but isn't too bothered about it.

"Her mother-in-law wants her to change the dog's name but she doesn't want to because she has had that name for four years.

"She did say she would call her something similar to Tracey like a nickname Tray Tray or something, as nobody calls her mother-in-law Tray Tray.

"She keeps laughing about it too while on shift and I can't help but laugh at the situation she has put herself in for the 'drama' of it all.

"She has shown me pictures of Tracey the dog and she is adorable. I can see why she couldn't turn her away."

While most users laughed at her self-inflicted situation, others shared their own stories of their close ones sharing a name with a dog.

One user said: "A friend just lost his Miss Molly (dog). She was six-years-old, a sweet, lovely girl.

"A different friend bought his granddaughter around while Miss Molly was still here, and I was introducing his granddaughter as Molly the human. It happens."

Another user added: "She could change the dog's name to Gracie and the dog would absolutely answer to it.

"But any dog quickly adjusts to an entirely-new name, especially if there are treats involved."
