HYUNDAI has unveiled its new high-performance KONA N compact SUV that it says has racetrack capability.
The Korean marque’s cracker is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Delivering 280PS – with the option to boost it for short spells to 290PS – it sprints to 62mph in just 5.5 seconds and redlines at 149mph.
Adding to the fun are the likes of five drive modes, an electronic limited slip differential, launch and traction control set-ups, sporty brakes and a variable exhaust valve system.
Exterior highlights include unique lightweight 19in forged alloy wheels, a front lip spoiler, wide front lower air intake, double-wing roof spoiler and pronounced side skirts.
The interior features high-end Alcantara materials, blue stitchwork, a performance head-up display, special sports steering wheel and metal pedals.
There is also a 10.25in digital instrument cluster and 10.25in infotainment touchscreen, as well as smartphone connectivity and voice control.
Driver aids include front, rear and blind-spot collision avoidance assistance, lane keeping and following assistance, driver attention warning, safe exit warning and adaptive cruise control.
Precise UK pricing and on-sale dates have yet to be announced but the first cars are expected to be available at the end of the summer.
Hyundai chief Albert Biermann said: “The KONA N can carve corners on the racetrack and bring excitement to everyday driving. It is a true ‘hot SUV’ with the performance of a hot hatch.”
