Hydes brewery is to reopen one of its oldest pubs after a massive refurb

The Hydes brewery is all set to reopen one of the oldest pubs in its whole estate, the Jolly Thresher in Lymm. The pub, which has been under Hydes tenure for 111 years, will open its doors after having undergone a £400,000 refurbishment.

The interior has been completely modernised - while staying sympathetic to the original features, along with new furniture, moving the toilet facilities and creating a larger dining area. The outside has also been refreshed, with a larger decked dining area for the summer.

The Jolly Thresher’s sister pub, The Wheatsheaf - which is just 200 yards away - has also benefited from a £150,000 refurbishment too, from a planned multi-million pound programme of investment from the brewery.

Hydes’ managing director Adam Mayers said: “The Jolly Thresher is one of our older establishments having been in the Hydes estate since 1911. It’s great to see it open again with an inviting and cosy brand new look and feel, just in time for summer.

“The outside dining offering is particularly pleasant and welcoming with our well maintained gardens, formerly a bowling green, offering the perfect spot for a memorable family meal. As a much-loved premium dining pub, we’re confident that customers old and new are going to enjoy this newly refurbished destination venue in picturesque Lymm.

“Hydes is committed to all of the pubs across its estate and this latest round of investment is part of an ongoing programme of multiple redesigns and refurbishments we’re going to be rolling out over the next few years. Providing our customers with a first-class experience is front and centre on our list of objectives and with premium dining destination venues such as The Jolly Thresher, we’re confident they’ll want to return again and again.”

Hydes has operated since 1883, and manages more than 40 pubs across Manchester, North Wales and into the Peak District, with its new brewery now based in Media City in Salford, having moved from its original site in Moss Side in 2012.
