HYDERABAD: From absolutely no cases barely five days ago, several households in the city are now grappling with an onslaught of Covid-19. While in many houses, entire families have tested positive, this is particularly being seen in families with kids.
While health officials say that the spread of infection is rapid and uncontrolled so far, the severity has been low. “We are seeing many cases of entire families, especially the ones with children, getting infected. It could be that the children were carriers as they were attending classes till recently,” said a health official. The official added that most patients are under home treatment and they have distributed roughly 400 isolation kits each day for the last four days now in the city.
Many localities in the city have a ‘self-imposed quarantine feel’, say residents. “For the last three days, each day six to seven families have been testing positive, leading to 76 cases in our building. With cases being reported, educational institutions going back to online mode and work from home beginning, people are not venturing out unless necessary. We are scared to use lifts, other common areas or go to shops,” said Sirisha Peddinti, a private employee from Manikonda area.
Most residents have initiated measures to contain the spread of the virus. “In view of the recent increase in Covid cases in our society, we are going to close the children’s park as of now. As children are also getting infected, we are requesting parents to not allow their kids to roam outside for at least two weeks. We have asked everyone to wear masks, use sanitizers, and avoid gatherings,” read a message from an association in Madinaguda.
