HYDERABAD: Now, two out of 15 floodgates of Osmansagar, one of the drinking water sources to Hyderabad City, popularly known as ‘Gandipet,’ also lifted, on Thursday evening, by the officials of Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB).
A gap of a few minutes opened the three floodgates of Himayatsagar reservoir, officials opened Osmansagar’s two floodgates, too. With this, twin reservoir gates were opened in this monsoon.
“In view of incessant rains, and anticipating heavy inflows arriving into Osmansagar between 9 am and 5 pm, two floodgates opened as precautionary measure,” said HMWS&SB managing director, M Dana Kishore, in an official release issued on Thursday here.
The FTL (Full Tank Level) of Osmansagar is 1790.00 feet with the capacity of 3.90 TMC and the present level of reservoir in the catchment area has reached to 1784.90 (2.817 TMC) and the outflow of the reservoir was, 200 cusecs, according to HMWS&SB’s official statement on reservoir’s water levels.
As twin reservoirs’ floodgates were opened, the HMWS&SB officials have requested the Hyderabad district administration and police to take all necessary precautions, in the downstream areas and urged to evacuate people living on either sides of the Musi river.
