Hyderabad: Two burqa-clad women vandalise worship places; arrested

HYDERABAD: Saifabad Police near Telangana capital Hyderabad apprehended two women for allegedly vandalising the idols at two worship places near first Lancer and Chintalbasthi on Tuesday.

According to police, one of the women wearing burqa walked into a pandal at Chintalbasthi and vandalised an idol of Goddess Durga using an iron rod. The second woman stood guard outside.

While the people at the pandal raised an alarm, the women fled from the spot.

However, locals intercepted them and handed them over to police.

Prior to the vandalism at the pandal, the duo also vandalised statues at a church in First Lancer.

"Both the women are sisters. We spoke to the family and they seem to be mentally unstable. We have registered a case under sections 153-A, 295, 295-A, 451 and 505 of the IPC. The duo will be produced before the magistrate," Central Zone deputy commissioner of police M Rajesh Chandra said.

Meanwhile, the accused's brother Asimduddin said his "mother and sisters have schizophrenia and brother has paranoid schizophrenia."

"I've not met my sisters yet but I've heard what happened so I've come down. My mother & sisters have schizophrenia & brother has paranoid schizophrenia. They've never done that. I'm very sorry. They're getting treatment at a hospital. So,I've to continue looking into this," ANI quoted Asimduddin as saying.
