Hyderabad: 'Speeding' techie falls to death from new Shaikpet flyover

HYDERABAD: A software professional who was returning home after work on his bike fell to his death from the recently-inaugurated Shaikpet flyover on Friday night.

B Pritam Bharadwaj (25) was wearing a helmet but did not buckle it up. Raidurgam police said Pritam crashed into the railing of the flyover and flung into the air before plunging from the top of the flyover. The accident took place at around 11.30 pm.

Pritam was reportedly speeding at the time of the accident. "It looks like he lost control over the bike. He first hit the railing and was airborne before falling below from the flyover. He fell on the road and died. He was declared brought dead at the hospital," Raidurgam sub-inspector G Saidulu told STOI.

After completing his work, Pritam was returning to Secunderabad where he resided. Pritam sustained injuries on his head and other parts of the body. "There is a curve on the flyover and it appears that he failed to negotiate the curve," police said. There are no CCTVs on the flyover.

Initially, police were clueless as to how the accident took place. "The bike was on the flyover. After talking to an eyewitness and seeing the circumstantial evidence, we felt it was a case of an accident due to speeding," police said.

The helmet which Pritam was wearing got detached from his head since he did not buckle it. Police said the helmet fell first before he came crashing down.

Following the accident, there was a traffic jam as a large number of people gathered at the sopt.

A case under IPC section of negligence causing death was registered.
