Hyderabad: Six held for theft at cop control centre

HYDERABAD: Six persons were arrested on Wednesday for stealing 38 bundles of copper wires from the under-construction Hyderabad police commissionerate-cum-Command Control Center in Banjara Hills Road No. 12. Each bundle cost about Rs 1 lakh.

Of the six, three accused — Sonu Khan, Sourab Biswas and Bikash Ranjan, who work at the construction site — stole the wires, while the other three — J Suresh, A Raju Mallesh and Abid Hussain — were arrested for buying stolen property. One accused, Shankar Kumar, is absconding, Banjara Hills police said.

According to cops, the plan was hatched by ambulance driver Sonu Khan. The ambulance was at the site to attend to any medical emergency faced by workers and Khan used it as a cover to steal the copper wires. Khan along with security guards Bikash and Sourab removed the wires late in the night and kept it in the ambulance, police said.

Banjara Hills inspector Nageshwar Rao said that the accused were nabbed after verifying CCTV footage. Assistant commissioner of police (Banjara Hills) M Sudharshan said that all 38 bundles were recovered.
