HYDERABAD: A terminated Armed Reserve inspector was arrested by the Jubilee Hills police on Thursday for allegedly cheating a person of 39 lakh assuring the victim that he would help him in settling a property dispute and threatening him with a gun.
The police officials arrested the accused identified as A Kishan Rao and recovered two air rifles, air gun, a pistol shaped cigarette lighter, promissory notes and three cars from him, said M Sudharshan, assistant commissioner of police, Banjara Hills.
Police officials received a complaint from Mohammed Abbas stating that he has given 39 lakhs to Kishan Rao, who claimed himself as a serving officer in police department, to use his clout to settle victim’s property dispute.
Later, when Abbas had asked Kishan Rao to return his money as he did not help him settle the issue, the accused threatened him with an air gun. Kishan Rao also said that he would foist a fake rape case against Abbas.
Abbas registered a complaint with the police. During the investigation, officials found that Kishan Rao was terminated from his post in the police department several years ago. A police case was also registered against him previously in Maharashtra for misusing his service revolver. “He could get the air gun as there is no need for a license to use air rifles,” the ACP said.
Kishan Rao’s brother Yadagiri Rao, who was in anti-Naxal commando force Greyhounds, died in the 2008 Balimela encounter with Naxals. Kishan Rao is residing at the police quarters at Yousufguda, which was earlier allotted to Yadagiri. It was in 1985, Kishan Rao joined as sub-inspector in AR.
Apart from Abbas, Kishan Rao cheated several other people promising them government jobs, said the police. The officials conducted raids at Kishan Rao’s residence and seized promissory notes, sale deeds and other documents. Police are on the lookout for another accused, who is an accomplice of Kishan Rao.
