Married woman gangraped in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: Two men have been booked for allegedly gang-raping a married woman on December 13 in SR Nagar by threatening to tell her family about her affair with a co-worker. The woman and her lover, both construction workers, attempted suicide in Vikarabad a day later, but survived.

The incident came to light on Friday after the woman, who is recovering, filed a complaint with SR Nagar police. The accused are her neighbours and reportedly in police custody.

On the fateful day, the woman was leaving the house to meet her lover when the two men caught her and threatened to expose the affair. The men took her to an empty room near her house where she was raped, SR Nagar inspector K Saidulu said.

The woman and her lover then went to an isolated place near Kandlapally gate in Vikarabad district on December 14 and consumed pesticide. But before losing consciousness, the man called a family member and informed him about their situation. They were found and shifted to hospital.

On Friday, the woman regained consciousness at the hospital in Vikarabad and told the police about the rape.

(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme Court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
