Hyderabad: Man killed in public at Begum Bazar

HYDERABAD: A man on a bike was killed by assailants on two bikes as people watched in Begum Bazar around 8pm on Friday. Police prima facie suspect the role of his wife’s family as she had married the victim despite their opposition as he was from a different caste.

The victim, Neeraj Panwar (22), and his father Rajender were travelling on the bike when the assailants stopped them. Neeraj was attacked with a knife and boulder. He was rushed to hospital but succumbed to his injuries. Rajender, who was on the pillion, informed cops that there were five attackers on two bikes.

According to Shahinayathgunj police, Neeraj had married Sanjana about one and half years ago despite opposition from her family. The couple have a boy.

“Both are OBCs but belong to different castes. We suspect that her family members might be behind the murder,” Shahinayathgunj inspector Y Ajay told TOI.
