Hyderabad: JEE exam snag-hit at 2 centres, sparks fly

HYDERABAD: JEE Mains candidates on Friday, had a harrowing time at two exam centres in the city with delayed sessions and students hamstrung by technical snags.

Aurora’s Engineering College at Abids and Moosarambagh witnessed unrest after distraught examines expressed their angst and parents sought extra time for their wards to write the exams. Police had to be called in to calm frayed nerves.

“The morning session began at 9:45am, instead of 9am. If this wasn’t enough, when students tried to login, computers lagged and questions didn’t show up on the screen. And in a double whammy, they were not allowed additional time and told to leave sharp at noon,” said an official from a popular coaching institute in the city.

Some students, who came here from as far as Medchal, were camping in the premises since dawn. At Aurora College, Moosarambagh, the glitches continued in both sessions. Talking to TOI, a parent said, the exam started an hour late and this had a ripple effect in the afternoon session.

“The second session was scheduled at 3pm, but it could not begin till 4. 16pm. We are shocked by the criminal negligence of the exam organisers at these two centres. The admit card specifically mentioned the second session at 3pm,” said a parent. Examinees panicked after they found that nearly 26 questions did not appear on their screens in the first session.

As the fiasco unfolded, parents launched protests and demanded that their children be given extra time. Cops were called in to control the crowds outside the twin centres.

On June 23, students who wrote their exams at CMR Technical College, Medchal, took to twitter to express their ordeal.
