HYDERABAD: In a huge relief for residents living along the Musi, now only one floodgate remains open at Himayatsagar reservoir after four more were closed on Monday as inflows declined for the third consecutive day. The reservoir has 17 floodgates and seven were opened earlier in a phased manner to release water into the Musi.
The current discharge into the Musi from the one open gate of reservoir stood at 343 cusecs.
Officials of Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) said that initially they had decided to close only two gates on Monday, but finally closed four as inflows reduced. At present, the reservoir’s water level was 1,761.75 ft against its full tank level (FTL) of 1,763.5 ft.
The situation at Osmansagar was also stable after two floodgates were closed on Sunday. “Inflows to Osmansagar was 150 cusecs and the recorded water level was 1,786 ft against FTL of 1,790 ft,” a water board official said.
