Hyderabad E-Prix: No stopping Jean-Eric Vergne

HYDERABAD: Jean-Eric Vergne raced to an astonishing victory in the Formula E Hyderabad E-Prix on the banks on Hussain Sagar here on Saturday.

The DS Penske driver fended off a spirited challenge from Envision Racing pair of Nicky Cassidy and Sabastien Buemi. He also survived anxious moments in the last 100 metres as he exhausted 100% of the allotted power to coast to a remarkable victory here. His last victory was in Rome on April 10, 2021.

The twists and turns coupled with an unexpected crash made the race an interesting affair for the fans and is being rightly dubbed as the best Formula E races in over two years.

Frenchman Vergne clocked 46:01.099 and said he was excited with his win. "I am very happy. Though it was tough in the end, I am happy to finish it well," said Vergne.

Buemi, who finished third, was penalised and pushed to the 15th spot. Tag Heuer Porsche's Antonio Felix Da Costa benefited from this and finished on the podium behind Vergne and Cassidy. Portugal's Costa clocked 46:02:958 minutes.

It was a forgettable day for Indian teams as Jaguar TCS Racing drivers Sam Bird and Mitch Evans crashed out while Mahindra Racing's Oliver Rowland and Lucas Di Grassi finished sixth and 14th, respectively.
