Hyderabad: 12-year-old designs ergonomic school bag to reduce weight

HYDERABAD: A 12-year-old boy from the city has designed a school bag that distributes weight evenly on body parts and reduces stress on shoulders.

Rehan Raj’s idea of Aufero Bags has made it to the semifinals of the Spark Tank event. He will be groomed and get to present his idea before the VCs. He is the only one from Hyderabad to make it to the semifinals.

“When I was going to the school one day after the second wave, I realised I shouldn’t be carrying such heavyweight on my shoulders, which isn’t good for my spine. My back used to hurt after coming back from school every day,” Rehan told TOI.

This bag has the same design as a normal school bag, except that it distributes weight. “The bag has evenly distributed sectors. The heavier books are stored diagonally to stop the bag from sagging. The bag has memory foam that molds to the shape of the back, which will prevent from hitting,” he said.

Rehan said that the outer layer of the bag will be made of pollution absorbing fabric and the inner layer will be made of Kevlar.

He has plans to offer customisation to the waterproof and fireproof bag for those who are ready to shell more money.

Maneesh Dhooper, Co-founder, PlanetSpark, meanwhile, said, “The bag with equally distributed weight is a simple yet innovative solution. His ability to present the idea to eminent judges is truly commendable.”
