A man who miraculously escaped after smashing his car on the M56 has been banned from driving.

Hyde man Christopher Day, 30, left his car a burnt out wreck following the smash in the early hours of June 6.

He was driving his Ford Fiesta ST when he lost control on the M56 and struck the central reservation.

The 30-year old managed to exit the vehicle and escape with minor injuries just before it was engulfed in flames.

He was arrested by police and failed a breath test in custody, police said at the time.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash and no one was hurt.

Now, Day has been disqualified from driving for 12 months and ordered to pay a £635 fine after being found guilty of drink driving without due care after appearing at Manchester and Salford Magistrates Court.
