Hyde and seek: Mystery of the 'Mancunian' family photos found in an antique in Japan

Generations of perhaps the same family gathered together in photos.

A handsome young couple, seated in a studio, for a formal portrait.

From her dress and shoes and his dapper suit it could be the 1920s, possibly a little earlier.

Another photo is of a bride and groom - this time the fashion suggests, maybe the 1940s or 50s - wide lapels on his suit, and the lady in a pleated dress, holding a bouquet and lucky horsehoe.

Then there are the snapshots of three children - which look like they were taken in the 1960s.

The pictures were found in a vintage sewing box exported to Japan.

The only clue to the identity of the people pictured is the name of a photography company embossed on the back of one of the photos, which were based in Hyde.

British Vintage, the Japanese company which imported the sewing box from Manchester dealer in March, is now trying to track down the family in the photographs.

In a Facebook post the firm, says: "We are a vintage shop based in Nagoya, Japan.

"We have just found these family photos in the vintage sewing box which we imported from the UK and would like to return these photos.

"There are date, name, and age on the back of child photos but no family name.

"They are called Gail, Tim, and Greg. These children must be in their 60s by now.

"One of the black and white photos with a lady holding a flower (the bride and groom) has a stamp on the back: 'Proctor Photographer, Market Place, Hyde.'

They add that the sewing box was dispatched to Japan in March this year.

The company says: "Can people in England kindly share this post please? Hopefully we can reach the family. Many thanks."
