Huyton takeaway Sweet Temptations' town centre move approved after enforcement notice

A popular Huyton takeaway has succeeded in its bid to move into the town centre after the owners were told they could no longer operate the business from their home.

Sweet Temptations will take over a former tattoo parlour in Sherborne Square after receiving permission from Knowsley Council to turn it into a takeaway.

Owner Stacey Higdon said: “We’re really excited to take our business to the next level and continue to expand.

“The council have been more than helpful with our application and we are very pleased with the outcome.”

Ms Higdon set up the business making cupcakes at her home off Stockbridge Lane in 2018 so she could spend more time with her daughter, but since then Sweet Temptations has expanded beyond the capacity of her home’s kitchen.

An explosion of business during the pandemic saw sales triple over lockdown but meant Ms Higdon and her partner, Barry McCormac, could not continue to operate from their kitchen without planning permission.

Earlier this year, Knowsley Council issued an enforcement notice against the couple, requiring them to get planning permission or stop operating from their home, leading them to apply to take over an empty unit in Sherborne Square.

The couple also appealed against the enforcement notice to give them more time for the move, which was approved by Knowsley’s planning officers on Thursday (June 10).

As well as continuing to provide the cakes, waffles and other takeaway food that has seen them become one of the top-rated businesses on Just Eat, the new premises will also allow the couple to provide breakfast and lunch for walk-in customers during the day.

Ms Higdon added: “We are planning longer opening hours and introducing a breakfast and lunch time menu, we will be hiring new staff over the coming weeks and the refit has been started.

“Hopefully it won’t be much longer until we open.”
