Hush Y’all: WGC event reminds patrons to be quiet in uniquely southern way

Two words won’t be hard to miss at the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational this weekend.

Hush Y’all.

It’s a twist on a common sight at every PGA Tour event. Most events have volunteers hold paddles that say “Quiet Please” before golfers take their swings.

Memphis, however, is the only PGA Tour destination that tells fans to hush like parents would tell their children.

The paddles were a staple at the FedEx St. Jude Classic, the forerunner to this tournament, and were the brainchild of former St. Jude Classic tournament director Phil Cannon.

Mitzi Bledsoe, who’s been a volunteer at the tournament since 1990, said they’ve been here since before she arrived.

“It’s definitely a Southern thing,” Bledsoe said.

So for fans walking the greens or watching at home this weekend, take note and hush – err, be quiet, and enjoy one of the unique features of the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational.
