'Husband wants to name our baby after cat - but people say he'll get bullied'

Picking a name for your baby is pretty daunting - it is something they'll have with them forever, after all.

Many take inspiration from their loved ones, their favourite places or their passions - but one mum-to-be was left baffled when her husband suggested naming it after an unexpected family member.

The couple came up with a list of possible names and the woman discovered her other half wanted something slightly unusual.

She vetoed his suggestions of Cyrus, Aethelstan and Lancelot, but there was one name he was determined to keep on their shortlist - and it's their cat's name.

She took to Mumsnet to ask other parents for their thoughts, and users couldn't believe his suggestion.

She wrote: "So finally getting DH (darling husband) to start at least thinking about baby names with a couple of weeks to go, and after crossing off the unappealing Cyrus/Aethelstan/Lancelot style names he likes, we finally have a short list... one of which is the cat’s name.

"We have a Kitty and a Rafe already and I’d like a name that ‘goes’."

She went on to list some of the other names they're considering, including "Maxim, Ivo (but would you pronounce it EE-vo or Eye-vo?), Mungo (the cat), Jonty and Jago (one of ds’s middle name though)."

But users just couldn't believe the pair were considering naming their new baby after their cat Mungo...

One person said: "Oh God no, not Mungo. The baby will get called Mingo."

But one person asked: "What's wrong with Mingo?" which received a comment from another: "Minger? Minging?"

Another agreed: "F*** me, I never comment on name threads, but Mungo has GOT to be a joke. He is joking, right?"

A third said: 'Your husband has to be pulling your leg with Mungo, hahaha."
