Husband tracks wife's car then stabs her in 'morbidly jealous' rage

A jealous husband stabbed his wife after putting a tracking device on her car.

Andrew Jones, 55, accused his wife Deborah of having an affair, and locked her in her car in a furious rage.

Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court heard that the pair were married for 12 years, but Jones became "morbidly jealous" last year.

He began to obsess over where she was going, which spiralled out of control.

Prosecuting Roger Griffiths described how Jones would "constantly ask who she was on the phone to, who she was with and eventually started tracking his wife by using a tracking device."

Mr Griffiths said: "Mrs Jones described the weeks leading up to the incident as the worst two weeks of her life."

According to the prosecutor, Andrew had struck Deborah in the face just days before the attack.

He said: "Andrew Jones picked her up from work. He locked the doors of the car. He put his face in Deborah Jones's face."

Jones, from Maesteg, South Wales threatened that something bad would happen to her if she did not confess to cheating, and then pulled a knife on her.

He said 'you have one more chance or this is going in you,' before stabbing her.

Deborah suffered from a 2cm wound but thankfully, they were not life-threatening.

Mrs Jones in a statement said: "This has ruined my life. I still have nightmares."

"I feel ashamed that I let him do this. I did everything to help him.

"I'm now a recluse. I'm terrified to leave the house. Since the incident I've rarely slept. I only sleep two to three hours a night."

Jones' lawyer, Kevin Seal, said that he had been taking medication to improve his mental health.

He said: "His plea of guilty is genuine and it's a genuine case of remorse."

Jones pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm with intent and was sentenced to ten years.

In court, Judge Richard Twomlow said: "You had been married for about 12 years. About 10 months or so before the incident you accused her of being with men.

"You used a tracking device. You would ring to ask where she was.

"If she was on the telephone you would become suspicious.

"You stopped in a lay-by and locked the doors.

"You had taken a knife with you from the house. You got on your knees and put her face in your face and said: 'I'm asking you once more to tell me or something bad will happen.

"You have one more chance or this is going in you."

"She said she lived and breathed for you."

Judge Twomlow said that Jones suffered from a mental condition he described as "morbid jealousy".

Jones will serve five years and four months behind bars, with an additional four years and eight months on license.

The judge also imposed a restraining order, meaning Jones is unable to contact Mrs Jones by any means.
