A married man strangled his mistress to death and then burned her body, leaving nothing behind but clumps of hair, remnants of a dress and a bra strap.
Leslie Khoo Kwee Hock, 51, has been sentenced to life in prison for throttling engineer Cui Yajie in his car in Singapore.
The laundry shop manager burnt the victim's body to cover his tracks, however, he was caught out after police found remnants of her clothing and hair.
Khoo, who confessed to killing Ms Cui and torching her body, attacked the woman because she was pressuring him to repay $20,000 (£16,503) he owed her, a court heard.
However, the judge overseeing the case, Justice Lim, did not believe Khoo set out to murder Ms Cui.
He said Ms Cui, 31, planned to speak to Khoo's bosses about the situation and that the laundry shop manager had planned to simply dissuade her from doing this.
Khoo tracked her down and took her to a secluded spot before strangling her on July 12, 2016, the court heard.
After killing her he put laundry bags over her body and left her in the car overnight, the Straits Times reports.
He then took the body to a remote spot and burnt it over the course of three days, leaving nothing but some hair, a bra strap and fabric from her dress, Today reports.
The murderer's romance with Ms Cui began in 2015, when he told her he was single and his family owned the company he worked for.
After his lover started to question him, the father-of-one lied and told her he was divorced.
He convinced the Chinese national to give him $20,000 for a gold investment.
Ms Cui borrowed the cash from her parents and later demanded the money back, before sending Khoo's wife a Facebook message informing her of their affair.
The murderer denied being romantically involved with the victim, although he admitted to cheating with other women.
The case was the second in Singapore's history involving a murder without a body.
