Husband says he's 'lost' after cyclist wife dies in horror Edinburgh lorry crash

The husband of a cyclist who died in a horror collision with a lorry has paid a heartfelt tribute to his wife.

Tragic Heather Stronach, from Musselburgh, was pronounced dead at the scene on a busy Edinburgh road on Monday afternoon.

Paramedics battled to save the 36-year-old, who is believed to originally be from New Zealand, but her injuries were too severe.

Heather's husband, Martyn, said: "Heather loved to ride her bike. I am feeling pretty lost. I have lost my best friend and my soul mate."

Emergency services were called to the scene on Portobello High Street at around 2.45pm after Heather was hit by a large truck near a set of traffic lights.

A friend wrote: "This is so very sad. Thoughts go out to her family who will be devastated."

Another friend said: "Such a tragedy. She was a lovely young woman with her whole life ahead of her.

"Tragic, tragic accident."

It's understood the couple had no children.

Enquiries to establish the full circumstances remain ongoing.

The family has requested privacy at this time.

Sergeant Mark Banner, of the Road Policing Unit, said: "We are still appealing for anyone who witnessed this incident, either shortly before or during, to contact us.

"I'd also ask drivers who were in the area around 2.45pm to check their dash-cam footage."

Anyone with information should contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting incident number 1829 of 2 November 2020.
