Husband's warning after wife is refused Covid booster jab

A concerned husband has issued a warning to others after his wife was refused her coronavirus booster vaccine.

Elaine Williamson, who lives in Ainsdale, booked to have a third dose of the jab on Wednesday (November 10) at her local pharmacy, Hirshmans, on Liverpool Road.

Her husband Neil told the ECHO : "[Elaine] received both a text and an email to tell her she could book her booster, so she went online and did so.

"Handily, she was able to book an appointment near where we live, and she went down there late Wednesday afternoon."

Elaine was about to receive her jab when a member of vaccination centre staff told her it wouldn't be possible.

Neil continued: "She was told she was a day early, so couldn't get the booster.

"Apparently it has to have been 182 days since your second jab, and it had only been 181 for her.

"It's not [the vaccine centre's] fault, they're just following guidance, and I have no problem with the vaccine system, I think it has been fantastically rolled out, but this IT glitch means Elaine, and undoubtedly many other people, having to travel to a vaccine centre only to be turned away."

Elaine has managed to re-book her appointment, though is having to travel considerably further from her home to get it.

Neil added: "The nearest option it was giving her at one point was Blackpool, which is apparently 13 miles away. Well, yes, in a light aircraft, but not in a car."

The NHS website says those eligible for a booster jab will be offered dates from 182 days (six months) after their second dose.

NHS England was approached for further comment but had not responded by the time of publication.
