Husband pays emotional tribute to his 'forever soulmate' after cancer battle

A husband has paid an emotional tribute to his 'forever wife and soulmate' who passed away after an eight-year long battle with cancer.

Jamie Jones, of Kingsmoor Close in Nottingham, said it is hard for him to imagine a life without Ellen who was the "most generous and loving person, who always helped everyone out".

His wife sadly passed away aged 46 at Nottingham City hospital on July 11, leaving behind a grieving family who will miss her forever.

Ellen Jones was married to Jamie for 22 years, during which they had three children together.

Her biggest wish after being told that she had cancer was to become a grandmother - which she did a year before she died.

She was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2013, following which she began chemotherapy.

Sadly this was not the end of her battle with the terminal disease.

It came back in 2015, this time affecting her liver.

After an operation and another six months of chemotherapy, she was told that her body could not make it through another intervention.

The cancer recurred in 2017, and Ellen started immunotherapy, having her husband's support during all these years.

Jamie, 47, added: "I used to work in motor trade, but I left my job to be her carer.

"After a long battle with cancer it was not the cancer that killed her eventually it was sepsis.

"She fell down on Wednesday (July 7) and that is when I called an ambulance.

"The doctors told us before how long they think she will live, but we chose not to tell her."

"The conversation would not have made sense to her anyway", Jamie added.

"Within a couple of days she got to the point where she could hardly hear anything."

Speaking about the future plans they made together and life-long memories that will be kept as a treasure in his heart, Jamie said: "When I met her, she was living in a homeless shelter after she had bad relationships with careless boyfriends.

"We moved in together, got married and had our first child just a few months after.

"When you meet your soulmate you just know."

He said he did not only lose his soulmate, but also a best-friend without whom their house is much emptier.

"I have our youngest son with us, of course - but I feel lonely without her", he added.

"I sometimes find myself still asking if she wants a cup of tea, but I get no answer.

"I sometimes go to the shop and pick things that are for her and then put them back when I realise."

Jamie said that he is planning to become a carer for other people.

Having spent years of his life alongside his wife, he said he would like to be that support for someone else.

Looking back at their happy marriage, Jamie added: "My friends told me that I am a widow now.

"But I am not - I am still my wife's husband and she will be my soulmate forever."
