The husband of murdered mum Caroline Crouch has told police he saw the face of one of her killers.
Sources say arrests could come “within days” after Babis Anagnostopoulos gave a full description of the man, whose mask fell down as Brit Caroline, 20, fought to save her baby.
She was tortured and strangled early on Tuesday morning by gunmen who made off with £13,000 cash the couple had saved to pay builders in Greece.
A source told the Sunday Mirror: “Caroline’s husband has described one of the men in every detail, including the colour of his eyes and his hair.
“He has been studying mugshots of known criminals who fit the description. They’ve already cut down their list of suspects from more than 300 to just 30.”
Caroline was strangled with a pair of trousers in front of her 11-month-old daughter Lydia. The burglars had reportedly held a gun to the baby’s temple.
They tied up helicopter pilot Babis, 33, after breaking into the couple’s maisonette in the upmarket Athens suburb of Glyka Nera at around 5am.
Caroline grew up on the Greek island of Alonissos, where her parents moved when her Liverpool-born dad David, 78, retired after a career in the armed forces and oil industry. Her mum Susan owns a cleaning business on the island.
The killer is said to be no older than 30, 5ft6in and slightly overweight.
Babis told police the man did not speak to his two accomplices at all, except for a few words in a language he did not recognise. Detectives believe the man could be part of a crime ring from neighbouring Albania.
Police have described the crime as the “most heinous” they have ever seen and a £250,000 reward has been offered.
The source added: “This case is their top priority. They’re hopeful arrests could be made within a matter of days.”
The gang, who also strangled the couple’s dog, stole the £13,000 hidden in a Monopoly box and jewellery to the same value.
Mayor of Alonissos Petros Vafinis said: “The whole island is in mourning for her.”
