A husband and wife who drank a bottle of wine a night have managed to lose six and a half stone between them after kicking the habit.
Terry Wright and her husband William Horton both piled on the pounds during lockdown, with Terry weighing more than 15 stone and William at 16 stone 6lbs.
Feeling low about their situation, they decided to try and lose weight together and agreed to stop a habit which was adding to their daily calories, the Liverpool ECHO reports.

After agreeing to stop drinking wine every night and joining JanePlan, they were delighted when they noticed their weight dropping off and, within just eight months, both Terry and William had reached their goals. Terry said: “I had tried so many different ways of losing weight — points-based plans, slimming pills, group weigh-ins, but I found they either didn’t work or they were unsustainable for any period of time.
"Over lockdown, my husband and I both put on a lot of weight and it was showing no signs of slowing down. We would serve up huge portions: two rounds of sandwiches for lunch a piled-up plate of bolognese for dinner, plus we would eat late and snack our way through the day. We were unhealthy and realised something had to change.”
Terry and William regularly drank wine and beer and frequently served up large portions of food. With the average bottle of wine coming in at around 600 calories, Terry was consuming an extra 4,200 calories a week in wine alone. After becoming more informed about their nutrition, they began living a healthier lifestyle.

Terry added: “The convenience of having tasty meals that we could just throw in the microwave is what really makes it stand out for me. Plus there is a lot of support, but it’s not forced on you. I lost 7lbs in my first week and felt absolutely amazing.
"Throughout my time with Jane Plan I have gradually learned to listen to my body - I no longer feel I have to clear my plate and, it might sound odd, but whereas before I would snack so much that I never felt hungry, I now listen and respond to my body.”
Terry and William have five children between them, as well as 11 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Christmas means a busy house, and typically the whole family would overeat and drink together. However, this year will be different, thanks to their changed lifestyle.
Terry said: “Christmas is a really special time for us, surrounded by our children, grandchildren and great-grandchild. Before Jane Plan, we would spend the time eating and drinking, feeling so uncomfortable that we would have to sit down after dinner. Now I’m healthier and more energetic, I will be down on the floor playing with the kids after my dinner!”
