Husband and wife reunited in Glasgow care home for the first time since before lockdown

A husband and wife have been reunited after more than three months apart during the coronavirus lockdown.

Norman and Sandra Thomson, who celebrated their 55 wedding anniversary through a window last week, were finally able to meet face to face when Renaissance Care’s Whitecraigs Care Home opened its garden to visitors this week.

76-year-old Norman said it was 'marvellous' to finally be able to speak to his wife Sandra properly.

Sandra, 74, and her fellow residents had been unable to receive any visitors since the care home closed its doors on March 11 - and the sun was shining as families and loved ones were reunited outside for the first time.

Norman said: “"It's marvellous. I was really looking forward to the visit. Obviously I would love to be with her but this is the first step. It's fantastic. I’m looking forward to next.”

Amanda Randou, activities coordinator at Renaissance Care’s Whitecraigs Care Home, said: “Sandra really enjoyed getting to reconnect with Norman. Visits are going great here. It’s lovely to see our residents reconnecting with their loved ones. It is challenging as it's a different type of visit but it's a step forward."
