Husband and wife in court after fight breaks out in pub toilets

A husband and wife involved in a "deplorable" fracas at a Bedminster pub have appeared in court.

Trouble flared after an incident in the ladies' lavatory at the Tap and Barrel in August last year.

Bristol Crown Court heard that during an altercation that followed Bridget Loveridge accepted swinging a punch but was "savagely" punched to her face.

Loveridge, 55, of Greystoke Avenue in Southmead, pleaded guilty to a public order offence.

Her husband Edward, 56, of Coniston Road in Patchway, pleaded guilty to affray.

Fraser Kidd, 28, of Tavistock Road in Knowle, pleaded guilty to common assault.

Judge William Hart handed Bridget Loveridge a 12-month community order with 10 days' rehabilitation.

He handed Edward Loveridge a 12-month community order with 80 hours' unpaid work.

And he gave Kidd a 12-month community order with 40 hours' unpaid work.

He told the three: "It was a deplorable piece of bad behaviour by everyone involved in what I suspect was your local public house on a Saturday night.

"There were perfectly innocent people there whose lives were ruined by what went on, and that sort of thing is always serious."

The court heard others involved in the incident will be sentenced by magistrates later.

Julian Howells, prosecuting, said around 12.45am there was an incident in the ladies' toilet and 15 people gathered around.

He told the court punches were thrown and Bridget Loveridge was punched in the face.

Mr Howells said Edward Loveridge was seen to pick up four pint glasses and throw them into the crowd, though not hitting anyone.

He said Kidd got involved in fighting and threw punches.
